Ruthann Curtis

Ruthann Curtis served as President of the Brain Injury Association of Austin from 2000 to 2013, stepping up and into the role after the previous president resigned. During her leadership, the group relocated several times before finally finding a home at Mary Lee Foundation (MLF) to host the support group meetings and events.
A true trailblazer, groundbreaker, and passionate advocate for the brain injury community, Ruthann was also instrumental in ensuring nonprofit status for the Brain Injury Association of Austin.
Under her guidance, the group expanded in both size and impact, ultimately becoming a stronger, more visible force in the brain injury community. She also played a key role participating in brain injury conferences, including securing booths and sharing our message.
As a cognition therapist, working with individuals who had sustained brain injuries, she referred many members from her workplace to the Brain Injury Association of Austin. Her dedication extended beyond her profession—both she and her husband, Chris, were deeply involved. Chris, an ER nurse at St. David’s, shared a wealth of knowledge with the group.
She passed away peacefully, in Tennessee, where she lived with her husband for many years after leaving the Austin area.
Ruthann devoted her life to the brain injury community. We are eternally grateful.
