Lee Lancaster

In loving memory of Lee Lancaster. 

We are saddened to announce the passing of a long time supporter, caregiver, and board member.

Walter “Lee” Lancaster born in Austin, TX on 1/10/1940 and passed away peacefully at home while sleeping in the early morning on 8/9/2021 and went to be with his Jesus. He was a member of Manchaca Baptist Church for over 30 years and helped start Bannockburn Baptist Church prior to that. He was a mechanic and was proud to have taught his kids and grandkids many things about cars and trucks. He worked for International Harvester Company, Ford Motor Company, Austin Brake and Clutch and retired from Austin ISD as Supervisor of Vehicle Services. Lee was a native Austinite and only lived away when in the Navy and a short time in Washington State, shortly after discharge. Lee was very proud of his service to his country while in the Navy. He made many friends while living in Washington State and cherished his memories there.

Lee’s parents were Rector and Gladys Lancaster. He was the youngest of 10 children: Louis Lancaster, Lois Brown, Lorene Kelso, Annie Stanfield, Pat Lancaster, Zane Lancaster, Wilson Lancaster, JP Lancaster and Ollie “Jean” Willie as well as many, many nieces and nephews. Lee frequently referred to himself as the “baby”. His loving sister Ollie “Jean” Willie, husband Rudy is the only surviving child of the 10. Lee was very close to his family and loved being with them.

Lee met his wife Bonny McAllaster Lancaster on a blind date while in the Navy and stationed at Whidbey Island, WA. They would have been married 62 years in November 2021. Lee was loved by so many and is so missed by his loving family. They were blessed with their children: Lucinda Marlene (deceased), Ricky Lee Lancaster, wife Peggy, Duane Edwin Lancaster, Melissa Deann Walters, husband Butch. Grandchildren: Dustin Lee Lancaster, Trent Lee Lancaster, wife Anna, Brandon Lee Walters, Hailey Danae Walters and his only Great grandson Jaxon Lee Lancaster. He has one surviving Sister-in-law Joyce Odel, husband Jack living in Oregon.

Lee enjoyed his visits to Oregon and Washington State. Lee was a Texas Tech, UT Longhorn and Tarleton State fan because of his grandkids. He loved traveling in his RV, playing golf, driving the boat on Lake Travis while pulling his kids and grandkids on skis and sleds, and mostly just being with his family. He loved the water under the boat but did not like getting in the water (a true sailor).

Lee was a Deacon in his church, a member of the Capital Area Rod and Gun Club, Past President of the South Austin Optimist Club, was very active with the Austin Baptist Chapel Angel House, was a volunteer at the Mary Lee Foundation, president elect for a few years and a board member of the Brain Injury Association of Austin for over 35 years and he helped start the first ever tee ball team for disabled children in Austin many years ago. He was a quiet man with many virtues.
